Retail Shelf Sensor Network
Designed a low-power shelf sensor and gateway hardware system giving 400+ store locations real-time stock visibility, replacing a nightly manual count.
The challenge
Inventory counts were only accurate once a day after a manual overnight count, causing frequent overselling online and understocked shelves in-store.
Our approach
- Designed a battery-powered weight-sensing shelf tag and in-store gateway
- Wrote firmware to keep multi-year battery life on a coin cell
- Built the telemetry pipeline feeding a live stock dashboard
The results
- Inventory accuracy improved from daily to near real-time
- Online overselling incidents dropped by more than 80%
- Rolled out to all 400+ locations within one quarter
